Established on January 27, 1994, this division is organized into two diagnostic units, the Electromyography (EMG) and Electroencephalography (EEG), to expedite patient workups. In addition to routine examinations, the addition of a Digital EEG machine in December 1997 enables digitization of EEG results to facilitate data storage and statistical analysis. In 1999, our department introduced Doppler color ultrasonography for diagnosing intracranial and extracranial vascular diseases (e.g. carotid atherosclerosis, stenosis and obstruction). Moreover, our hospital is equipped with the 1.5-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) and Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) to provide patients with a substantial evaluation of vascular, anatomic and metabolic imaging of the brain and spinal cord. Diseases treated by this division include stroke (cerebral ischemia, hemorrhage), Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases, meningoencephalitis and other infectious diseases, neuromuscular disorders, as well as diagnostic interventions for acute and chronic headaches, dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus and other neurological symptoms.
